Christmas is soon here and we are in the middle of the hustle and bustle of getting our gifts purchased and wrapped, visiting friends to spread good cheer (hopefully with a glass of Cattail Creek wine) and frantically baking Christmas cookies until our fingers are dyed red and green from the coloured sugar. Okay, maybe that last one is only applicable to the mothers out there, but from the entire family at Cattail Creek Estate Winery, we wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and all the best that a new year can bring. And thank you for your continued and loyal support throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you again in 2009.
Cattail Creek Estate Winery Wins Again!

2008 has been a great year for our wines and once again we are incredibly excited to announce that we have added to our competition “hardware”, this time bringing home three medals at the Canadian Wine Awards held in Penticton, British Columbia. Our recently released Cabernet Franc Icewine 2007 won Silver while our Riesling duo, the Dry Riesling 2007 and the Off Dry Riesling 2007 both won bronze. The Canadian Wine Awards is Canada’s leading national wine competition and the benchmark competition of its kind for all Canadian wines. This year, the Canadian Wine Awards saw a record 1,000 entries from 5 provinces. With 16 hand-picked judges representing 7 provinces, the wines were blind-tasted with each wine being tasted up to 4 different times. Finalists were tasted by all 16 judges who ultimately awarded just 32 gold medals, 115 silver medals and 262 bronze medals. Currently, our Cabernet Franc Icewine 2007 ($70.00 per 375 mL bottle) and our Off Dry Riesling 2007 ($15.00 per 750 mL bottle), along with our Dry Riesling 2006 ($15.00 per 750 mL bottle) are available to purchase at our tasting boutique and also available for on-line order.
And For Our American Customers…
You can now purchase all of our wines on-line at www.thecuvee.com. And right now, TheCuvee.com is offering $5.00 off your order if you use the coupon code MYL9BR. So hurry to make sure you don’t miss this great offer.
Family Time…
The family of Cattail Creek Estate Winery will be taking some much needed family time over Christmas and into the New Year. Therefore, the tasting boutique will be closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2008 and re-opening on Thursday, January 8, 2009. So please make sure you have enough Cattail Creek wines in your wine rack to pull you through this time. As always, if you cannot make it out to Cattail Creek Estate Winery we would be more than happy to ship our wines out to you. Just either check out our web site or e-mail us to place your order.
Everyone Needs To Have A Catastrophe!
We have added to our list of wines offered at Cattail Creek Estate Winery something a little fun, a little playful, a little catastrophic! It is our “Catastrophe” Chocolate Orange Infusion. We took our Riesling Icewine from 2007 and infused it with dark chocolate and orange. And believe us when we tell you it is absolutely delicious. Since its release a few weekends ago, Warren and Dad can barely keep up with the demand as they frantically hand label each bottle. As with all of our wines production is very limited and sure to sell out quickly. Catastrophe is $20.00 per 375 mL bottle and is available gift wrapped ($1.00 per gift wrapping).
And where did we get the name – well my cat, Lucy! I picked Lucy up on the Trans-Canada Highway between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. She was dirty, flea-ridden and malnourished. After lots of veterinary bills and fumigating my car, she became a member of our family. But she is a handful. Lucy is, by far, the smallest of our cats (weighing in at just 5 pounds) but she lets us know she is around. For a small cat, she has the loudest “meow” that can reverberate through the house to picking fights with the older, and much larger, cats. At one point, the fighting got so bad that we had to relocate our 18 pound cat, Chester, to my parent’s house for his safety. Alas, everyone loves a little Catastrophe!
Going, Going…Gone.
Our Select Late Harvest Cabernet Franc received a lot of rave reviews including 90 points from Wine Access Magazine who said, “Pale salmon-pink tinged appearance. Clean, cherry-chocolate-honeyed, simple but pleasant. Sweet, round, fullish, nicely balanced and spicy, long finish. Lots of consumer appeal – very festive wine.”
No wonder it didn’t last!
Until next time…

Roselyn Dyck-Cieszkowski
