Susan Rissling joined Cattail Creek Estate Winery as Winemaker in 2011 bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience, both here in the Niagara Region as well as internationally.
Growing up in Guelph, Ontario, she earned a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from the University of Guelph. This piqued her interest in viticulture which led her to Niagara where she fell in love with winemaking. She went on to earn her post-graduate Certificate in Grape and Wine Technology from the Cool Climate Oeneology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) at Brock University. Thirsty for more knowledge, she travelled to Waiheke Island in New Zealand where she learned about cool-climate viticultural techniques while working the vineyards. Once she returned to Niagara, she held the position of Assistant Winemaker at Inniskillin Wines before taking on as Winemaker at Cattail Creek. Already, her Serendipity Rosé 2011 won Silver at the Ontario Wine Awards…a promise of things to come.
Susan creates wines with immense purity of fruit, exceptional balance and a beautiful sense of place, making wines that are unique to the Cattail Creek Estate Winery.
