The BBQ is already pre-heated and my fridge is stocked full of our newest wine, Serendipity Rosé 2008 ($14.00/750 mL bottle). Another Newsletter, Another Award (Or Two)!

With over 60 wineries and 500 wine submissions the Ontario Wine Awards have grown in both size and stature. The Ontario Wine Awards recognize VQA varietal quality in 25 different categories and acknowledge winners in Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal levels.

At the most recent Ontario Wine Awards we came away for the second year in a row with more hardware. This time around our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2007 as well as our Gamay Noir 2007 were both Bronze Medal winners.

Cattail Creek Estate Winery Debuts At Vintages

This is a very exciting summer for us at Cattail Creek Estate Winery. On June 6th we saw our very first wine be released through Vintages. Vintages purchased our entire production of Serendipity Rosé 2007 (Vintages #118059, $13.95). It is now available at your local Vintages corner and if not, ask your friendly Product Consultant to bring some in for you.

And keep your eyes open for our Riesling Reserve 2007 (Vintages #112847, $19.95) to be featured as the Vintages VQA Discovery on July 18th. Both of these wines are only available through Vintages so make sure you don’t miss out. And for more availability information, go to www.lcbo.com.

Also in the pipeline are our Merlot 2007 and Cabernet/Merlot 2007, scheduled for release later this autumn on August 29th and September 26th respectively.

New On Our Shelves…

Serendipity Rose 2008 ($14.00/750 mL bottle) This vintage, the serendipitous blend is 75% Riesling and 25% Gamay Noir and boy is it delicious. It exhibits amazing fruit salad of flavours – watermelon, candied sour cherries, fresh strawberries and a beautiful note of cotton candy on the finish. The perfect wine for summer!

Gewurztraminer 2008 ($17.00/750 mL bottle) Get this one while you can. It is our first time producing a Gewurztraminer and we only made 64 cases and it is moving fast. This wine is incredibly aromatic with perfumed aromas of roses in full bloom, rich spicy notes followed by tropical lychee fruit and ripe pineapple.

No Oak Chardonnay 2008 ($15.00/750 mL bottle) Once again this is a first for Cattail Creek Estate Winery. With absolutely no oak ageing this wine is loaded with aromas of crisp apples with pears, peaches and just of hint of pineapple.

Merlot Reserve 2007 ($40.00/750 mL bottle) Here is one for you Merlot lovers out there. Soft and elegant with supple tannins and a wonderful balance. Ripe flavours of bumbleberries, black raspberries, dark plums, red currants and highlights of vanilla, allspice and freshly ground coffee.

Cabernet Franc Reserve 2007 ($40.00/750 mL bottle) Two words – yum yum! Full bodied, ripe tannins, spicy vanilla, black cherries, dried oregano, dark plums, mint – As you can imagine, this wine is ultra complex with lots of promise for the future. Get it while you can – we only made two barrels of this wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2007 ($40.00/750 mL bottle) this wine is not for the faint of heart – you need to love big body, lots of structure, loads of complexity and, of course, exhibit some patience as this wine will just get better and better with some time resting in your cellar. Right now this whine exhibits dark chocolate, plums, cassis and cigar box nuances and it will just keep betting better.
