Spring 2009: It’s beginning to look a lot like… Spring

The family at Cattail Creek is all a-bustle preparing for an exciting year of fun and festivities. And we can’t wait for you to join us. While we can’t let the cat out of the bag just yet, we will keep you posted through our newsletters (for the first-in-line news) and our web site so keep checking us out.

And inside the winery is hopping as well. The family is recovering from long days of bottling so keep your eyes out for the release of our Serendipity Rosé 2008 and our newest wine yet, Gewurztraminer 2008 of which we only made 60 cases!!! This is by far our smallest lot yet so be sure to get some – it won’t last long!

Talking about vintages, it is amazing how time flies – we are already bottling our third vintage of wines and getting ready for our fourth vintage. Looking ahead to what will hopefully be a spectacular 2009 vintage, I continually refer to my very dog-eared (or should I say cat-eared) Farmer’s Almanac for an insight into what this year will bring with regards to the weather but as we all know, Mother Nature can be very unpredictable. Anyway, regardless of what the forecast calls for, we look forward to seeing you soon.

And talking about Vintages, we are delighted to announce that soon you will be able to buy some of our wines in the Vintages section of your local LCBO store. Vintages have purchased the entire production of our Serendipity Rosé 2007 for release June 6th as well as our Riesling Reserve 2007 which will be released July 18th.

Cattail Creek Estate Winery Wins Again!

Canadian Wine AwardsLast year was a great year for our wines and once again we are incredibly excited to announce that we have added to our competition hardware. Our wines brought home three medals at the Canadian Wine Awards held in Penticton, British Columbia. Our recently released Cabernet Franc Icewine 2007 won Silver while our Riesling duo, the Dry Riesling 2007 and the Off Dry Riesling 2007 both won bronze. The Canadian Wine Awards is Canada’s leading national wine competition and the benchmark competition of its kind for all Canadian wines. This year, the Canadian Wine Awards saw a record 1,000 entries from 5 provinces. With 16 hand-picked judges representing 7 provinces, the wines were blind-tasted with each wine being tasted up to 4 different times. Finalists were tasted by all 16 judges who ultimately awarded just 32 gold medals, 115 silver medals and 262 bronze medals. Currently, our Cabernet Franc Icewine 2007 ($70.00/375mL) and our Off Dry Riesling 2007 ($15.00/750mL), along with our Dry Riesling 2006 ($15.00/750mL) are available to purchase at our tasting boutique and also available for on-line order.

And we definitely can’t forget our most recent win at the prestigious Cuvée Wine Awards. At the 21st Annual Cuvée Wine Awards, Cattail Creek Estate Winery won Best Limited Edition White Wine for our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2007. Cuvee is the Academy Awards for the Ontario wine industry with winemakers judging the 192 wines submitted from 52 wineries throughout Ontario. This is the same competition in which we were the first winery to win Best Limited Edition Sweet Wine for our first vintage of wine last year for our Barrel Fermented Vidal Icewine 2006. We are ecstatic to have won this award yet again.

We welcome everyone to visit Cattail Creek Estate Winery to taste a complimentary sample of our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2007 until the end of April.

And For Our American Customers…

You can now purchase all of our wines on-line at www.thecuvee.com. And right now, TheCuvee.com is offering $5.00 off your order if you use the coupon code MYL9BR. So hurry to make sure you don’t miss this great offer.

Everyone Needs To Have A Catastrophe!

LucyWe have added to our list of wines offered at Cattail Creek Estate Winery something a little fun, a little playful, a little catastrophic! It is our Catastrophe Chocolate Orange Infusion. We took our Riesling Icewine from 2007 and infused it with chocolate and orange. And believe us when we tell you it is absolutely delicious. Since its release, Warren and Dad can barely keep up with the demand as they frantically hand label each bottle. As with all of our wines production is very limited and sure to sell out quickly. Catastrophe is $20.00 per 375mL bottle.

And where did we get the name – well my cat, Lucy! I picked Lucy up on the Trans-Canada Highway between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. She was dirty and malnourished. After lots of veterinary bills and fumigating my car, she became a member of our family. But she is a handful. Lucy is, by far, the smallest of our cats (weighing in at just 5 pounds) but she lets us know she is around. For a small cat, she has the loudest meow that can reverberate through the house to picking fights with the older, and much larger, cats. At one point, the fighting got so bad that we had to relocate our 18 pound cat, Chester, to my parent’s house for his safety. Alas, everyone loves a little Catastrophe!

And In The Vineyards…

Last spring we planted some new Riesling vines around the winery. Why not come by and see the young vines and we can show you what Warren and Dad do to get these little guys producing great quality grapes for our wines. We will keep you updated on how they are coming along in the summer edition of the newsletter!

Going, Going…Gone.

Our Serendipity Rosé 2006 ($14.00/750mL) and our just released Merlot 2007 ($19.00/750mL) are nearly sold out with just a few cases remaining so make sure you don’t miss out on these wines before they are gone for good! In addition, our Select Late Harvest Cabernet Franc 2007 sold out in the blink of an eye! For those of you that were able to get your hands on a bottle – good for you and for those not, keep an eye out for our Select Late Harvest Cabernet Franc 2008 expected to be released this summer.

Cheers,
Rosi
